CASUALTIES NOT LISTED ON THE MEMORIALS IN THE TOWN

As I have already mentioned, there appear to be several mistakes in the information on the war memorials in the town, and Cullompton is not alone in that.  There are also a few curious commemorations which have left me searching for a link between Cullompton and the casualty, which in most cases I have been able to find.  What I have not been able to find, as yet, are any records relating to how those to be commemorated were chosen, although I suspect that, in common with many other parishes, appeals went out to the residents for details of their loved ones lost.

So, if some of the information is inaccurate and some of the men did not apparently come from Cullompton, could it be that others who did are not listed?

Soldiers Died in the Great War lists many others who were resident in Cullompton when they enlisted.  Most of these came from the surrounding villages, such as Willand, Uffculme and Dulford.  Others have no apparent link to the town after initial research.  Two however I feel to be worthy of mention as I can see no reason why they should not be included in the context of this website:-
